Friendly and accommodating: Rupert and Audrey run one of the friendliest Dive Centres we have come across. As part of their service they will pick you up from your hotel, organize all your diving and equipment and drop you back off at the end of the day. We consider their services to be excellent value for money. Diving in Malta with Buddies Dive Cove-PADI 5 star IDC: As an IDC Centre they can offer everything from our referred courses in the UK, to Instructor level training. Audrey is a PADI Course Director. English is widely spoken, they have a good range of hire equipment and their knowledge of the island makes them a firm favorite with the Maltese Divers. Buddies are also the hosts for our cavern diver courses. Non Diving Activities: Malta offers some spectacular scenery, interesting locations and a variety of activities for non divers. This includes the local Sealife Centre where they study dolphin behavior, and you can get to swim with them.

"I am going to Malta (St Paul's area) on 30 May for a week's diving with my son. We're both PADI advanced. There seem to be so many dive centres in the area-can anyone make any recommendations? Thanks,Jayne"-"We've used Buddies in Bugibba just up from the sq. (www.buddiesmalta.com) Very helpful, and they pick you up, and they do dives all over the place and it's quite cheap too."

"Geographically situated in the peaceful centre of the Mediterranean sea, Malta is an archipelago of three islands, the mainland being Malta itself. Take time off diving to have a quick tour through mankind's prehistory (the oldest man-made buildings are to be found here...older than the pyramids!!!), history and the cultures of the numerous civilizations who have inhabited the Islands through the passage of time. Dive with BuddiesMalta to get the most in Malta&Gozo diving"

Diver3:
"I am still excited about the trip and my diving experience with BuddiesMalta-in total we have located around 40 dives covering all abilities and contrasts of dives from marine life dives to wartime wrecks. Malta is a jewel in the crown in diving. People are right to believe that Malta is a beautiful place but until you have dived in Malta you will onle have uncovered half the beauty."

"Hi Audrey, I just wanted to thank you and all the guys at Buddies for two days of great diving, both my brother and myself had great fun. Thanks for organising the whole thing and special thanks to Terry – a really great guide and role model. See you all again soon. Cheers, Tony."

"Well what can I Say about Buddies? Probably the most friendly and helpful IDC dive shop in Malta. I first started to use Buddies when I thought of doing my Cavern Course approx 4 years ago and since then have moved through the Padi System with Buddies, I now hold a Staff Instructor rating and am busy gaining my Master Instructor (All To The Tremendous Enthusiasm of Audrey and her Course Director Skills). Even though I have gained my student and Instructor equivalent in most subjects, Rupert and Audrey usually take the extra step and find something interesting to dive especially for the Professional diver. Even if you just require information send them an E-Mail and they will do there best to help you out. I have made 7 trips in the last 4 years all have been for training, which has gone without complications a credit to the entire dive team"

Pekka,Finland:
"Thank you very much for the exellent 6 days we had in Malta with you. Your most professional and friendly way to work and co-operate was much appreciated and it made our holiday even more enjoyable. Our lovely quide was more than perfect and she well exceeded our expectations. Although we tried we couldn´t work out her name so from the very beginning we called her Sally. Once again, many thanks. We look forward to seeing you and Sally again."

"Early investigation by Karl had identified Buddies Dive Cove in Buggiba as a potential dive company to use and Rupert and Audrey who run the company provided great assistance during both the planning and the execution of the trip. They were particularly flexible in providing for our needs and ensuring that all the training we needed to undertake could be achieved within the framework of their diving plans. Thanks to the good offices of Buddies Dive Cove we achieved all of the expedition aims. We now have one additional Dive Leader and 7 qualified Ocean Divers, all of who have completed their theory training towards Sport Diver as well as 2 of the open water lessons. Buddies Dive Cove is based at 24/2 Pioneer Road, Bugibba. For a 10 dive package for our group, including full kit hire for 8, we paid 2,400 Euros, which included a 10% discount for group booking. "

"Um El Faroud: "September 2004: This was my first dive below 18m. What a treat! The visibility was superb and the wreck exciting to explore. We saw barracuda at the stern and stood in the bridge....real food for the imagination! The best dive of the five it took to gain my PADI Advanced Open Water. October 2005: Well I had to come back for this one! Still PADI Advanced but with a little more experience now. There were more divers in the water this time but I did manage to dive the forward section of the wreck which I didn't manage last time. A great dive as predicted and it wet my appetite to dive the Rozi the next day.Thank you, BuddiesMalta!"

'Redtide':
"My open water cert was done in Malta at Buddies Dive Cove: www.buddiesmalta.com and I enjoyed it so much that I decided I wanted to be an instructor. We did not stay at the resort near or affiliated with the dive shop; we stayed at the Hilton which was a wonderful place to relax when not diving, but too far away (although they do come pick you up every morning for diving) from our departure points for diving. Shoot Rupert at Buddies and e-mail with what kind of accommodation you are looking for, and he can make some recommendations"

'Outdoor Stud':
"Buddies Dive Cove (5* IDC) are a really friendly lot, can't say I've looked at the prices of the other shops, but they offer a pickup and dropoff service, and even though they've moved away from where I stay I'm still going back to them to do my DiveMaster in May"

David Mahon:
"I did OW (referral) & AOW with these people. They were great at fitting in exactly what I need around a very tight schedule. PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre www.buddiesmalta.com. Because it's fairly small, many of dive schools will pick you up from anywhere on the island-and they'll take you diving anywhere around the island too. Book the holiday yourself (some great deals can be had) and book the diving separately. They were happy to chat via email before I arrived and I didn't pay until the end of the course. Of course, if the hotel you stay in has a dive school, that may be too convenient to ignore! Mine did, but they couldn't fit OW + AOW into my tight schedule and I was fairly set on doing both. I did with BuddiesMalta.

"NAME-Buddies Dive Cove, FRIENDLINESS OF STAFF -Fantastic, QUALITY OF HIRE EQUIPMENT-Ok, VALUE FOR MONEY-Fantastic, DIVE GUIDE-Fantastic, COMMENTS-Rupert the owner is really friendly, it is family run and you are treated as part of the family, professional and enthusiastic dive guides, plus exciting island tours if you get Jean-Baptiste as a guide. Really excellent all round..."

Samantha Proctor (formerly of the Santa Maria, Bugibba):
"To Karsten and the team @ Buddies: Just wanted to say 'Many Thanks' for a fantastic dive on Monday. I have only seen fish that impressive in aquariums up until now, so seeing/swimming with them in the natural environment was amazing, as was the dive site itself. I apologize for not saying so at the time (was preoccupied with packing/travel etc.). Hope you all have a great season, and hope to see you next time I visit Malta. Grazi and Sahha!!"

Steve:
"Hi! Thanks to the team for the recent dives on Maori and to Andrea for being patient with my inexperience, it was nice to get my first dives in since qualifying. I am back in August and will be booking some more with you, hopefully having improved my buoyancy techniques a bit."

Rob Endley:
"Hi Rupert, We all arrived safely back in the UK with a good feeling with lots of great memories. We all felt that we had experienced some fabulous new things and more importantly, made some new friends. A big thankyou to you and all of our friends at Buddies, please say 'hello' for us to everyone. From a personal point of view I cannot imagine having better school trip, thanks very much for all of your skill, support, patience, professionalism and friendship. Let's do it again! I'll send some photos when i get them. "

"In the book The dive sites of Malta, Comino and Gozo, Lawson and Lesley Wood write: "The offer of unlimited diving, clear deep water and an unrivalled abundance of marine life keeps divers coming back year after year." Malta's geographical position, splat in the center of the Mediterranean, is partly the reason why it offers the best diving in the Mediterranean. The range of marine species in the Mediterranean is roughly divided into four regions, north and south, east and west, but Malta straddles the point where the four regions meet, home to species from all four regions. Abundance of marine life aside, underwater visibility is as good as it gets - twenty metres in spring and autumn during the plankton build-up, up to forty-five metres between November and March. Sea-scapes are excellent, the boulder meadows, gulleys, chimneys, ledges, cliff drops, gorges, caves, domes; all formed as the water erodes the veins and layers of soft limestone, called globigerina limestone. Mild weather allows all-year-round diving (water temperatures rise to 27 degrees C in summer, down to 15C in winter). Malta - a cluster of three islands whose combined land area is about one-half the size of London - has about seventy-five charted dive sites, plus the unofficial in-betweens. As a general rule the dive sites in Gozo, Malta's second largest sister island, are less polluted, less crowded, with more dramatic scenery."

Donna Salter:
"Diving Malta in November: I did enjoy this trip to Gozo and will definitely return. There are a variety of dive sites to suit all divers, although we did not go that deep. The sea temperature was always around 20-24 degrees, and it was mainly sunny and warm/hot. We were a little bit unfortunate with the weather as our week coincided with a storm front that was crossing the islands; Even so we still managed to dive everyday. One thing to think about for the next trip is that they were just sinking one of the old ferry's just west of Mgarr at a depth of 40 metres rising to a depth of 24 metres of the surface. They put back the sinking of the ferry due to the weather otherwise we could have been amongst the first divers to dive the site. There's always next year! Finally, thanks to Rupert for all his hard work in organizing the trip."

Lucy:
"OK, trip report – I’m not very good at writing reports and stories, so bear with me. I dived in Malta in March with Buddiesmalta. After private e-mails and some phone calls, the weeks break was arranged. I cut out the middle man (travel agent) and booked with the airline and hotel direct. The return flight and 7 nights DB&B cost me at that time £208. Those who want details, PM me if you wish. I still had to find spending money and cash for the tanks, weights and we were splitting the cost of a hire car. Still worked out cheaply though...Ginge (boyfriend) and I arrived at the hotel late at night, we unpacked, showered and went to bed. We met Rupert at breakfast the next morning. I was off to the docs for a medical, passed no problem, and then to pick up the hire car. We went back to the hotel for the dive kit, and Ginge went to arrange some trips for himself, as he doesn’t dive.We were using cylinders and weights from the shop of Buddies – I thought they were fine. We were doing shore dives, so no boats, which suited me. Dive boats and I do not mix! The diving was superb. I took a dry suit, as it was like a hot summers day over there, but the water temperature was about 12 degrees C or so. It was their winter, but to me it was hot and sunny. The viz was about 20m+, but unfortunately there were bloody jellyfish around. We did a variety of sites, having the car made it easier. It was physically hard work with some sites being at the bottom of a steep slope (Ghar Lapsie!) but I was nicely toned at the end of it, so hey – I wasn’t complaining! We suited ourselves – no pressure to get back into the water, nothing like that. We took as long as we wanted for the surface interval, and dived for as long as we were able.My longest dive was for 75 minutes, and I only surfaced because I was in dire need of a piss! Plenty air – came up with 60 Bar approx, so was not impressed at having to surface. We were at 14m on that dive. There was a huge variety of life, and I found a small octopus in it’s hole. I think it was scared of me (most people and things are), because it pulled itself further in. I left it alone. There wasn’t much ‘treasure’ to be found, I found some interesting shells (empty) and a piece of broken coral on the sea bed at Ghar Lapsie. I liked that site, because the cave system is impossible to get lost in. As I don’t really like underwater caves this suited me fine. For a wuss like me re. caves – if I can do it, anyone can do it. There was another one, where the cave went back and we could surface, but the only light was from our torches. Although I didn’t ‘freak’ or panic, I wasn’t too happy in there and was rather pleased to see the light at the mouth of the cave. When I could see that, I was quite happy to stay where I was. I can’t remember the name of that dive though. Sorry! I spent the holiday a very happy and contented frog, thoroughly enjoying myself and generally chilling out and relaxing. I am going back in November, I booked the flight and accommodation 2 days after getting home. I’m told November will be hot (to us) so will need a wet suit and not a dry suit for then. I’m booking a week, flying out Thursday 20th and home again on Thursday 27th if anyone’s interested. Then I will know whether to favour March or November for my 2 week stint next year! In a nutshell, I had a fab time, really enjoyed myself."
